500 Miles from You

Lissa works as a nurse in a busy, industrial area of London. She has always been incredibly capable and adept at handling situations, but after intervening to save the victim of a horrifying crime, she has been silently dealing with PTSD. In the hopes that a change of scenery will aid in Lissa's healing, her boss covertly makes arrangements for her to work at a far less taxing position in the small Scottish Highland village of Kirrinfeif for a few months. Lissa will take Cormac's place, an Army veteran and the laid-back paramedic/nurse/all-around medical man of Kirrinfeif. Although Cormac has never spent more than a day in a big city and Lissa has never seen small-town life, it seems like a trade that would benefit them both.

The vivacious Lissa finds it difficult to acclimate to the stillness in Kirrinfief; the gentle Cormac is a fish out of water in London. Nevertheless, these two total strangers are now in continual communication, taking on each other's patients and exchanging emails on everything and everything. Lissa and Cormac experience a new level of intimacy—both with one another and with their line of work.
