The Seven Kingdoms' future is in jeopardy after a titanic conflict because new dangers are appearing from all sides. The last descendant of House Targaryen, Daenerys Targaryen, reigns with her three dragons as queen of a metropolis paved with death and dust in the east. However, Daenerys has thousands of foes, and a large number of them are searching for her. One of the young men sets off on his own, completely unrelated mission, to find the queen while they are all gathering.

Tyrion Lannister is also escaping Westeros with Daenerys in tow, carrying a bounty on his head. But his newest friends in this mission are not the motley crew they first seem to be, and at their core is someone who has the power to permanently undermine Daenerys' claim to Westeros.

The enormous Wall of ice and stone, on the other hand, is located to the north. Its strength depends on those who stand vigil over it. Jon Snow, the 998th Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, will have to overcome his biggest obstacle there. For he has formidable enemies not only beyond the Watch, but also in the country of the icy animals.

Seemingly impossible difficulties will be faced by a large cast of outlaws and priests, soldiers and skinchangers, aristocrats and slaves, as past battles rekindle and personal betrayals occur from all directions. While some may falter, others will gain strength from the gloom. However, the winds of fate and politics would eventually bring about the greatest dance of all at a period of growing unrest.
