Eleven-year-old Jaycee Dugard was kidnapped on June 10, 1991, from a school bus stop near her Tahoe, California, home. After more than eighteen years, that was the final time her friends and relatives saw her. Dugard, her kids, and Phillip Craig Garrido showed up to the California parole officer's office on August 26, 2009. Their peculiar behavior prompted an inquiry that resulted in the identification of Jaycee Lee Dugard, who was living in a tent outside Garrido's house, as the culprit. At the ages of fourteen and seventeen, she gave birth to two daughters while under captivity; Garrido was the father of both of them.

The 30-year-old 30-year-old wrote her own narrative, which spans the years from her 1991 kidnapping to the present. Jaycee shares her story in harsh, brutally honest, and uncompromising detail, including her experiences as well as her current feelings a year after being discovered. Since then, Garrido and his spouse Nancy have entered guilty pleas to their offenses.
