Marie-Laure lives in Paris with her father, who works as the master lock maker for the hundreds of locks at the Museum of Natural History. Marie-Laure loses her sight at the age of six, so her father creates an exact replica of their neighborhood so she can learn it by touch and find her way home. This is during the Nazi occupation of Paris. They may be carrying the most precious and deadly treasure in the museum.
