Birthmarked

There are people who live within the gated Enclave and those who live outside, like sixteen-year-old Gaia Stone, in a future world where the intense sun has burned everything dry. Following in her mother's footsteps, Gaia went on to become a midwife, giving birth in the world beyond the wall and transferring a certain number of kids to be "advanced" into the Enclave's affluent culture. Gaia has always felt that this is her responsibility, up until the night when her parents—the same individuals they obediently serve—are jailed. Gaia must now doubt all she has been taught, but she only has one option: either go into the Enclave world and save her parents, or perish trying.
