A contemporary dark fantasy about dissolute shadow thieves, hidden groups, and betrayals.

Charlie Hall does not know of a lock that she cannot crack, a book that she cannot take, or a poor choice that she would not make.

She has worked with gloamists, magicians who use shadows to peep through closed doors, suffocate victims in their sleep, and other heinous acts, for half of her life. Greedily, gloamists keep their secrets to themselves, creating a shadowy grimoire market. They also need Charlie Hall in order to loot their fellow magicians.

She is now attempting to put her previous sins behind her, although it is difficult to do so. She is still much too close to the sordid underbelly of the Berkshires while working as a dive bartender. Not to mention that Vince, Charlie's shadowy and maybe soulless lover, has been keeping things from her and that her sister Posey is in serious need of magic. Charlie becomes entangled in a web of deceit and murder as a dreadful character from her past reappears.

She faces out against a group of doppelgängers, erratic millionaires, gloamists, and the people she loves the most in the world, all of whom are determined to survive and are attempting to steal a secret that would provide them immense and awful power.
