Greetings from Camino Island once more, a place where everything may happen, including a murder that may turn out to be the ideal crime: a murder during a hurricane.

As Bruce Cable's Bay Books gets ready for best-selling author Mercer Mann to make a surprise visit, Hurricane Leo deviates from its expected path and makes landfall directly on the island. Bruce chooses to stay and weather the storm while the majority of Floridians board up their homes and head to the mainland in response to the governor's order for a forced evacuation.

The hurricane is terrible; it destroys hotels and shops, floods streets, levels homes and condos, and claims the lives of twelve people. Bruce's acquaintance and mystery writer Nelson Kerr is one of the alleged victims. Yet, Nelson's injuries seem to indicate that the storm was not the reason behind his demise: he had multiple apparent head injuries.

Who would want Nelson dead? In the wake of the hurricane, the local police are overburdened and ill-prepared to handle the situation. Bruce starts to question whether the sketchy individuals in Nelson's books are maybe more real than imagined. Additionally, Nelson's new novel manuscript is someplace on his computer. Is that the black and white key to the case right there? More startling than any of Nelson's story twists, and far more perilous, is what Bruce finds when he begins to dig further.
