Daisy Haites, 20, has always yearned for a typical existence, but it's not in the cards for her. Daisy was raised by her elder brother Julian after their parents were killed in front of them twelve years ago. She has never been able to escape her brother's vigilant observation. Daisy's life is complicated due to Julian's line of work, though. Her feelings for Christian Hemmes, a gorgeous but emotionally distant boy she has been seeing for a few months and who also happens to be one of the few men in London who doesn't report to Julian, don't make matters any simpler. Not only is Christian's life difficult, but he is also in love with his best friend's girlfriend. Daisy begins to enter his true affections as well, but he's content to use her to mask those as well.

Daisy, Christian, and Julian must all accept that everything in this life has a cost as their romance develops into something neither of them had anticipated. They all discover as their connections entwine and overlap that sometimes the greatest achievements in life require a price in blood.
