He's a macabre hero, a lovely monster, and a serial killer who exclusively takes the lives of evil people.

There has been a lot of strain on Dexter Morgan. Being a moral serial murderer is plain difficult, particularly when you're attempting to evade the deadly Sergeant Doakes' unwavering beliefs that Dexter is a murderous maniac—which, of course, he is. Dexter has forced to dive deeply into his impenetrable disguise in an effort to get Doakes to lose track of him. Now, when he's not working for the Miami Police Department as a blood-spatter analyst, he spends almost all of his time with his happy girlfriend Rita and her two kids, drinking light beer and gradually turning into the first serial couch potato ever. Dexter can play Kick the Can instead of Slice the Slasher, but for how long? How long till his inner beast escapes and his Dark Passenger compels him to abandon the mask?

Opportunity knocks during hard times. A particularly terrible psychopath is making his way across Miami; even Dexter is shocked by his devious methods. Dexter's sister Deborah, a tough-as-nails Miami investigator, is pulled into the investigation when his dark thirst returns. It soon becomes evident that it will take a monster to capture a monster, but Dex can't really start looking for a new plaything until his archenemy is taken hostage. Unless, of course, he is discovered first by his plaything...

With the incredible wit and freshness that drew widespread acclaim to Darkly Dreaming Dexter, Jeff Lindsay now takes Dexter Morgan to a new level of macabre appeal and gives us one of the most original, colorful narrators in years.
