To Sophie Mercer, she seemed to be a witch. She was sent to Hex Hall, a reform school for misbehaving Prodigium (also known as witches, shape-shifters, and faeries), for that very reason alone. However, she soon learned of the family secret and that Archer Cross, her hot crush, is an agent of The Eye, an organization determined to eradicate Prodigium off the face of the planet.

As it happens, Sophie is one of the world's two demons—her father being the other. Even worse, she has abilities that put everyone she loves in danger. For this reason, Sophie determines she has to go to London for the Removal, a risky surgery that has the potential to kill her or permanently erase her talents.

However, Sophie discovers something startling when she gets there. Her new roommates, huh? They are also demons. That is to say, there is a covert demon-raising going on, with sinister intentions to harness their abilities—probably not for good. Archer is being used by The Eye, who are determined to find Sophie, to accomplish their goal. However, it's not as though she still feels anything for him. Does she not?
