Eligible: A Modern Retelling of Pride & Prejudice

You may recognise this rendition of Mr. Darcy and the Bennet family, or you may not: Like her elder sister Jane, who is a yoga teacher, Liz is a late-thirties magazine writer who resides in New York City. When they go back to Cincinnati, where they grew up, to assist their father after a health crisis, they find that the family is in chaos and the expansive Tudor house they grew up in is falling apart.

Kitty and Lydia, the younger sisters, are too preoccupied with their Paleo diets and CrossFit exercises to find employment. With the exception of those unexplained Tuesday night excursions, Mary, the middle sister, seldom leaves her room while pursuing her third online master's degree. And when Jane's forty-first birthday draws near, Mrs. Bennet is only thinking about how to marry off her daughters.

Let's introduce Chip Bingley, a dashing newcomer to the area who had an appearance on the popular reality TV dating programme Eligible. Chip strikes up a conversation with Jane at a Fourth of July cookout, but Chip's buddy, doctor Fitzwilliam Darcy, shows Liz that he's a lot less appealing... However, first impressions might be misleading.
