1943 Italy: During World War II, Germany holds a large portion of the nation, putting the Jewish people in great peril.

Though separated by circumstance and religion, Eva Rosselli and Angelo Bianco were reared as family when they were little. The two discover that they are falling in love as time passes. Angelo decides to become a priest despite having strong affections for Eva since the church summons him.

Now, over ten years later, Eva is a helpless lady and Angelo is a Catholic priest. As the Gestapo closes in, Angelo conceals Eva behind a convent's walls, where she learns that the Catholic Church is providing sanctuary to several Jews, including herself.

But although Angelo sacrifices everything to keep Eva safe, she cannot remain hidden and wait for deliverance. Angelo and Eva must endure trial after trial and agonising choice after agonising choice as a result of the globe at war and the abundance of needy people until destiny and fortune eventually meet and they are faced with the most difficult option of all.
