Now that the truth is out, Zoey finally gets what she wants. Even though Neferet's depravity has been revealed and the High Council has turned against her, she is still very much at large among the vampire community. First, the stables are destroyed by an unexplained fire. Neferet then unleashes a terrifying maneuver that will put them all to the test.

Everyone has to come together, but it's becoming harder than ever since mistrust has been sowed and turmoil is being bred at the House of Night by Darkness. The twins are hardly conversing at all, and their faith is being tested by Kalona, the House of Night's erstwhile adversary who has turned into a fighter.
