Hornet's Nest

Deputy Chief Virginia West likes and respects her boss, Hammer, but she finds it difficult to accept Hammer's directive that a rookie reporter ride on patrol with her in order to improve relations with the locals, given the rising number of visiting businessmen being murdered in her city by a madman who has a penchant for painting his victims bright orange. On their first expedition, her greatest worries are realized when Brazil, the reporter, hits the button to trigger the boot-release instead of the siren. Her opposite number in the uniformed division is acting like a jerk, her hormones are acting up, the radio despatcher is trying to trip her up, and the D.A. is embroiled in a heated dispute about the trial schedule—he's not the only annoyance in her life at the moment. Additionally, dead bodies with orange hues start appearing on her patch.
