Reporter Carl Streator is looking into Sudden Infant Death Syndrome for a soft-news piece. He discovers that all of the deceased youngsters were read the same poem from the same library book the night before they passed away after dispatching paramedics to several calls. This song is a "culling song," an archaic African eulogy used to end the lives of the ailing and elderly. He encounters a mother who unintentionally murdered her own kid with it while doing research on it. Twenty years ago, he had unintentionally murdered his own wife and kid with the same poem. The lady and the guy must work together to track down and destroy every copy of this book while avoiding killing every obnoxious sonofabitch who stands in their way. Lullaby is a tragicomic comedy-drama. in that sequence. It could be Chuck Palahniuk's finest work to date as well.
