Music legend Elton John discusses his unusual life—which is also the basis of the movie Rocketman—in his sole official autobiography.

Named Reginald Dwight, he was a quiet youngster with spectacles reminiscent of Buddy Holly who grew up in the London neighbourhood of Pinner and aspired to be a pop sensation. At twenty-three, he was embarking on his first tour of the United States, where he stunned the crowd with his tight silver hotpants, bare legs, and a T-shirt with the words ROCK AND ROLL spelled out in sequins. With the arrival of Elton John, the music industry will never be the same.

From being turned down for a job with songwriting partner Bernie Taupin at an early age to becoming an overnight sensation, his life has been filled with drama. He went from trying to drown himself in his LA pool to disco dancing with the Queen, and from making friends with John Lennon, Freddie Mercury, and George Michael to founding the AIDS Foundation. Elton was concealing a heroin addiction that would control him for more than ten years throughout this time.

Elton also talks about altering his life, getting sober, falling in love with David Furnish, and becoming a parent in Me.
