The release date for the English version of 'Metro 2033' by Dmitry Glukhovsky is Jan 2013. If you enjoy this novel, it is available for buy as a paperback from Barnes & Noble or Indigo, as an ebook on the Amazon Kindle store, or as an audiobook on Audible.

It is the year 2033. The planet is now nothing but debris. The end of humanity is looming. The radioactive decay has rendered the partially destroyed cities uninhabitable. They claim that the ruins of split woods and never-ending deserts are located outside their borders. The survivors may still recall how magnificent humanity once was. However, the remaining vestiges of civilization are now just a faint recollection, the subject of folklore.

More than 20 years have passed since the last plane took off from the earth. Rusted railways lead into emptiness. The ether is void and the airwaves echo to a soulless howling where previously the frequencies were full of news from Tokyo, New York, Buenos Aires. New life forms now have guardianship over the planet from humans. Radiation-induced mutations have made them more suited to the new environment. The end of man is near.

Not knowing whether they are the last ones remaining on the planet, a few hundred thousand survivors continue to survive. They reside in the largest air-raid shelter ever constructed, the Moscow Metro. It is humanity's last refuge. Stations have become mini-statelets, their people uniting around ideas, religions, water-filters - or the simple need to repulse an enemy incursion. It's a world without hope, goals, or aspirations, where there is no future. Instinct has replaced feelings; survival is the most crucial instinct. Survival at any price. VDNKh is the northernmost inhabited station on its line. It's still safe and one of the greatest stations on the Metro. But now a new and terrible threat has appeared.

Artyom, a young man living in VDNKh, is given the task of penetrating to the heart of the Metro, to the legendary Polis, to alert everyone to the awful danger and to get help. He holds the future of his native station in his hands, the whole Metro - and maybe the whole of humanity.
