Although dying isn't enjoyable, at least it's a living.

Mickey7 is a throwaway laborer who was sent on a human mission to Niflheim, an ice realm, and he is considered disposable. The team goes to Mickey if a task becomes too risky, even suicidal. A new body is created with the majority of the previous iteration's memories preserved once it dies. Mickey7 knows what he signed into after six deaths, which is why he grabbed the only open colonial post at the time.

Mickey7 disappears on a very normal scouting trip and is thought to have died. Mickey7's destiny has already been decided until he unexpectedly receives assistance from local life and makes his way back to the colony headquarters. Mickey8, a fresh clone, is in charge of expendable tasks. Everyone despises the thought of having duplicate Expendables, and if they are discovered, they will probably end up in the recycler for protein.

Mickey7 has to hide his twin from the other members of the colony. Life on Niflheim is becoming worse in the meantime. There is not enough food, the environment is unsuited for human habitation, and terraforming is not progressing well. Commander Marshall is terrified of the local species' increasing interest about their new neighbors. Mickey7 will determine if any of the two lifeforms survives in the end.

If he can just manage to avoid dying permanently, that is.
