In twelve hours, Ansel Packer is supposed to pass away. He is aware of his actions and is now awaiting execution—the same terrible destiny he inflicted upon those victims years ago. However, Ansel wants to be acknowledged and appreciated rather than simply pass away. Not for him, he prayed that it wouldn't end this way.

The tale of Ansel's life is revealed to us via a variety of women, including a mother, a sister, and a murder investigator. Finally, we meet Saffy, the homicide detective hot on Ansel's trail, who has dedicated her life to bringing bad men to justice but finds it difficult to see herself clearly. Lavender, his mother, is a seventeen-year-old girl driven to desperation. Hazel, Ansel's wife's twin sister, has been inseparable from birth and is forced to watch helplessly as her sister's relationship threatens to devour them all. These three ladies examine the cascading cracks that inevitable result from such devastation as the timer winds down, sorting through the decisions that lead to disaster.
