In the height of summer, a female writer travels to Athens to teach writing classes. She becomes the spectator to a series of storylines as the individuals she encounters tell her one after another about their lives, even if her own circumstances are still unclear.

Starting with the next-door passenger on the departure aircraft and his stories of fast boats and broken marriages, the storytellers discuss their everyday lives, fears, and loves, as well as their hurts and aspirations. A rich human tapestry is being woven by the sequence of voices amid the oppressive heat and cacophony of the metropolis. As they converse, their listener becomes more elliptical, molding and guiding their stories until a few themes surface: the difficulties of intimacy, the nature of family life, the experience of loss, and the wonder of creation itself.
