Overkill

Zach Bridger, the former MVP quarterback for the Super Bowl, hasn't seen his tempestuous ex-wife Rebecca Pratt since their marriage ended, so he was taken aback when he received a call about her that changed his life. After a brutal attack, Rebecca was put on life support, and even though they are no longer together, he still has medical power of attorney over her. Zach is forced to choose between keeping her on life support and removing it. Finally giving in to the pressure of public scrutiny and the weight of duty, Zach leaves, allowing Rebecca's parents to have the last word.

Four years later, the scion of an affluent Atlanta family named Eban, who attacked Rebecca, is granted an early release from jail. Kate Lennon, a talented state prosecutor, is resolved to send him back in jail because of the absurd injustice that smells of partiality. Rebecca's parents had kept her alive for all these years, but if anything were to happen to her, like she passed away, Evan may face a new charge: murder.

Zach understands that he has to kill Rebecca in order for Eban to be held accountable for her death. Despite not agreeing with Kate's legal position, he finds himself drawn to her at the wrong moment. Realizing how dangerous his situation is, Eban schemes to ensure that neither Zach nor Kate survive to witness Rebecca's death and the end of his independence.
