Safe Harbour

A lone woman strolls along the beach with a dog by her side on a breezy summer's day in San Francisco. Even at the age of eleven, Pip Mackenzie has already experienced sorrow; her mother Ophelie was left inconsolable nine months before after a horrific accident. However, Pip meets artist Matt Bowles on a cool July day. Bowles offers to teach Pip how to sketch, but he can't help but notice her mother, who is lovely but lonely.

Pip has a certain allure for Matt Bowles, who compares her to his own daughter when she was that age, before a violent divorce tore his family apart and sent his kids all over the globe. Ophelie is first taken aback by her daughter's new friend, but she soon comes to appreciate how much happiness he is bringing into their life. A surprising gift of hope emerges from the gloom that has shrouded them both as Ophelie is hit by a devastating betrayal and Matt faces unresolved issues from his past.
