The Beaumont family has kept a remarkable secret for many centuries. Every one of them has a "savvy," a unique supernatural ability that manifests around their thirteenth birthday. Two days before Mibs's birthday, the family receives terrifying news—Poppa has been in a tragic accident—as if waiting weren't difficult enough. Mibs devises a unique plan to reach the hospital and demonstrate to the staff that her dad can be saved by her newfound ability. Thus, she boards a salesman's bus covertly only to discover that it is traveling the other way.
