Skyward

The survivors of the human species, having been defeated, crushed, and almost wiped off, are stranded on a planet under relentless bombardment by unexplained extraterrestrial starfighters. Teenage Spensa, who lives with them, dreams of becoming a pilot. She realises her goal may come true when she finds the remains of an old spacecraft, provided she can fix the ship, get it through flying school, and—perhaps most importantly—convince the odd machine to assist her. Because this ship seems to have a soul, which makes it distinctive.
