Snow Falling on Cedars

Tight, sorrowful, and very atmospheric—a suspenseful masterwork Located north of Puget Sound, San Piedro Island is so remote that its residents cannot afford to create enemies. However, a local fisherman called Kabuo Miyamoto, a Japanese American, is accused of killing him in 1954 when his body is discovered oddly drowned. It becomes evident throughout the trial that there is more at risk than just a man's guilt. For on San Pedro, recollections of a wooing, paid-for, and lost land; recollections of a merry romance between a white lad and the Japanese girl who would grow up to be Kabuo's bride. The memory of the Japanese inhabitants of San Piedro, who were forcibly removed from their homes during World War II while their neighbors looked on, haunts the town beyond everything else.
