In this buzzy, page-turning debut novel about sex and power in the corridors of corporate America, Sweetbitter meets The Firm (already optioned to Netflix).

Alex Vogel was an athlete and great student in high school, a pre-law whiz in college, and a Harvard Law School graduate. She was always a high achiever who followed the rules. She tells her kind and understanding long-term boyfriend that taking the ideal job at the exclusive Manhattan law firm Klasko & Fitch won't affect who she is.However, Alex finds herself drawn to the company's resources and enthusiasm, as well as her confident male coworkers who become attracted to the newcomer. Never before has she felt so strong and self-assured; even the flirtatious banter with clients is enjoyable. Alex puts in a lot of overtime in the company's most lucrative and competitive business, mergers and acquisitions, accumulating billable hours while also entertaining clients well into the night. Even while the work is demanding, there are benefits like a weekend getaway to Miami, a private jet flight for a client, and an endless supply of meals that go on the expense account.

However, Alex starts to doubt everything, even herself, as her clients' needs and expectations rise and she finds herself attracted to an attractive coworker despite having a wonderful relationship at home. She is aware that there are gray areas in the corporate world and that breaking the rules is necessary to succeed. However, who established such guidelines? And what if, in any case, the system is biased against women?

Alex learns how women like her are told—both directly and implicitly—how they must act in order to achieve in the office when something occurs that exposes the grim truth of the company. She can no longer watch in silence, even if doing the right thing means risking everything to reveal the startling truth.
