Everyone in a little village full with secrets is under suspicion.

A body found bled dry on a beach awakens a nightmare for the slumbering seaside town of Weston-super-Mare. It's Detective Inspector Louise Blackwell's first case on the job; she was just relocated to the town she last saw as a child.

The victim, Veronica Lloyd, is an elderly volunteer at a nearby church, and she has hand punctures. It is evident that Blackwell is dealing with a virtuous and brutal killer when a priest is discovered dead in a neighboring church in an equally gruesome state. Yet the victims aren't chosen at random. The murderer has a personal grudge and is determined to carry out a horrifying act of revenge for a long-held, dark secret, and more killings are in the works.

Blackwell is running out of time to figure out who the murderer is and stop the bloodshed as the body count climbs. Although she believed she understood Weston, the town is far more secretive than she realized. Who is trustworthy, and who is more knowledgeable than they are revealing?

Before it's too late, she needs to find out the crimes the victims have in common.
