Youngsters may have an uncompromising, brutal sense of fairness. Youngsters might feel extremely pleased of themselves when they slay a monster. A girl may think that because of her brother, she is destined to fight evil as a knight or bard. She finds it hard to accept that she has discovered her calling.

Hazel and her brother Ben reside in the peculiar town of Fairfold, where fae and humans coexist. Tourists are drawn to the faeries by their supposedly benign power, but Hazel is aware of their potential for danger and knows how to put an end to them. Or once, she did.

A glass casket in the woods is the focal point of it all. It lies flat on the ground, and within is a boy with sharp ears and horns on his head. When they were younger, Hazel and Ben fell in love with him. For decades, the youngster has slept there and never woke up.

Till the day he does...

Hazel attempts to recall her years of pretending to be a knight while the world falls apart. Will it be sufficient, however, when engulfed in a new love, changing allegiances, and the sharp pain of betrayal?
