An enjoyable and sardonic book about the most difficult boss in the history of difficult employers.

After graduating from college, Andrea Sachs, a girl from a tiny village, gets the job that "a million girls would die for." Andrea was brought in to work as Miranda Priestly's secretary. Miranda is the well-known and wildly successful editor of Runway magazine, and her workplace exudes Prada! At every corner, one encounters Armani, Versace, and a world full of breathtakingly gorgeous men and women dressed in tight leather leggings and finely ribbed turtlenecks that flaunt their lifetime commitment to the gym. Miranda has the uncanny ability to transform all of these stylish hipsters into terrified, crying kids.

EVIL IS WEARING PRADA offers criticism of "The Boss from Hell" a funny and rich new meaning. It tracks a deep, dark, diabolical vision of life at the top that is only hinted at in gossip columns and over Cosmopolitans at the newest cocktail parties. Andrea narrates it in her astute, wonderfully charming style. Andrea is put to the test every day—and frequently late into the night with orders barked over the phone—for everything from sending Miranda's children the newest, not-yet-in-store Harry Potter to Paris via private jet, to finding an unknown antique store where Miranda had once admired a vintage dresser, to serving Miranda lattes at exactly the perfect temperature she prefers. She tolerates everything because she is focused on the goal—a Miranda recommendation that will get Andrea a prestigious position at whatever magazine she wants. But when things become more and more outlandish and not simply unpleasant, Andrea starts to fear that the career that a million females would kill for could really end up killing her. She must also choose if the work is worth the cost of her soul, even if she lives.
