A 22nd-century workplace book

In not too distant a future. countless miles away from Earth.

Both those who were produced and those who were born make up the crew of the Six Thousand ship. There are some who will perish and those who won't. The crew of the ship is confused to find itself becoming quite attached to a variety of weird artefacts that it has taken on from the planet New Discovery, and both human and humanoid personnel find themselves yearning for the same things: warmth and connection. family members who have departed. Our common, distant Earth, which exists only in memory at this point.

The crew members gradually begin to view themselves in a different light, and each one is forced to reflect on what it means to be genuinely alive and if their job can continue in the same way.

Presented in the form of a compilation of witness accounts gathered by a committee on workplace safety, Ravn's incisive writing is both menacing and uplifting. Tormented by a myriad of desires, The Employees explores the emotional and ontological nature of humanity while also offering an overdue criticism of a life dictated by labour and the logic of production.
