The Last Rose of Shanghai

Two individuals from distinct cultures are brought together in Japanese-occupied Shanghai by chance and the unrestricted nature of music.

1940. Young heiress Aiyi Shao used to own a glitzy, well-known nightclub in Shanghai. Ernest Reismann is a poor Jewish refugee who was forced to flee Germany. He is an outsider looking for safety in a place that is suspicious of strangers. Until he meets Aiyi, he almost gives up on life. She defies convention and creates a stir when she employs Ernest to play piano at her club. His sudden celebrity makes Aiyi's club the place to be in Shanghai once more. They quickly come to understand that they have more in common than just a love of jazz, but Aiyi is betrothed to another man and their differences appear irreconcilable.

Aiyi and Ernest are split apart as the conflict intensifies, and they have to make increasingly difficult decisions between their survival and their love. A series of events that will permanently alter both of their lives are set in action in the face of insurmountable obstacles.
