The Moonshiner's Daughter, which is set in 1960s North Carolina and is full of heart and determination, depicts the unique life of sixteen-year-old Jessie Sasser, a young lady who is driven to leave her family's history behind.

In Wilkes County, North Carolina's Brushy Mountains, Sassers have manufactured moonshine for generations. Jessie Sasser's father keeps a leather-bound diary with their history in it, but Jessie isn't interested in reading it. From her perspective, her mother passed away twelve years ago because to moonshine.

Her father won't talk about her mother or the day she passed away. However, Jessie's need for the truth is so strong that it drives her to turn to food for solace. However, the tough-but-caring school nurse characterises Jessie's self-destructive behaviour as feeding the "monster" inside of her.

Using their neighbours as scapegoats, Jessie devises a scheme to destroy the stills in retaliation for her father's insistence that moonshining is in her blood. Rather, her plan intensifies a long-standing competition and exposes resentment. Jessie's loyalty will lead her to surprising discoveries about her family, her strengths, and a heritage that could hold the answers she has been searching for as she works to make amends for past and present wrongs.
