The Nowhere Child, a first psychological suspense novel written by screenwriter Christian White and winner of the Victorian Premier's Literary Award, is a worldwide bestseller about a woman who discovers terrible truths about her family and herself.

Australia's Kimberly Leamy teaches photography in Melbourne. Two-year-old Sammy Went disappeared from her Manson, Kentucky, home 26 years before. Kim is contacted by an American accountant who is certain that Kim was the child abducted just after her birthday. She finds it hard to comprehend that the kind social worker who reared her and passed away from cancer four years ago crossed international borders in order to abduct a little child.

Sammy, the daughter of Jack and Molly Went, vanished from their Kentucky home on April 3rd, 1990. The couple, who had been distant since the girl's birth, became more distant over time. Molly took comfort in her religion, while Jack tried his best to nurture and protect his other daughter and son. That religion was supplied by the Church of the Light Within, a Pentecostal fundamentalist organisation that worships deadly snakes. The Wents finally broke up without Sammy.

Now that she has evidence proving she and Sammy are one and the same, Kim leaves for America to meet up with relatives she never knew existed. Additionally, she wants to unravel the mystery behind her kidnapping, which will lead her into the depths of religious fanaticism, where she will have to battle people who are desperate to preserve her soul in order to survive.
