I'm afraid you've picked up the wrong book entirely if you picked it up expecting to discover a straightforward and happy story. Don't be deceived by the story's first happy ending, which has the Baudelaire kids hanging out with some fascinating reptiles and an exuberant uncle. You already know that happy occasions may ultimately result in tragedy if you know anything about the unfortunate Baudelaire children.
The three siblings really go through a vehicle accident, a horrible smell, a dangerous snake, a long knife, a big brass reading light, and the appearance of a person they'd hoped to never see again inside the pages you now possess in your hands.
You are welcome to return this book to the shelf and look for something lighter, but I am obligated to write down these terrible occurrences.
