Albert Entwistle has a tranquil, uncomplicated existence and is a private guy. He lives by himself with Gracie, his cat. In addition, he works as a postman. For the most part, he worked as a postman until three months before his 65th birthday, when he received a letter from Royal Mail expressing gratitude for his many years of service and informing him that he would have to retire.

Albert's only link to the outside world breaks instantly. He would travel the streets of his little English town every day carrying mail, distributing packages and letters and greeting people with a wave and a "how do." What will be the purpose without the job that occupies his days? He has no family, friends, or interests; all he has is a history he never discusses and a love he lost that makes him sad.

Albert thus devises a bold strategy to begin really living, as opposed to carrying on with his solitary life. Now is the right moment to acknowledge his true nature. to pursue the joy he had always denied himself. And to summon the bravery to search for George, the guy he loved and lost a long time ago but will never forget. As he does, an amazing thing takes place. It is never too late to live, to hope, and to love, as Albert discovers when he makes new friends and unusual allies.
