An epic conflict between evil and virtue...

16-year-old Jack had an ordinary existence in the little Ohio town of Trinity until learning about the Roses. His only distinguishing feature from other high school students is the big scar over his heart and the medication he must take every day. One day, Jack neglects to take his medication. He is suddenly more powerful, furious, and self-assured than ever. And it feels amazing. Until, that is, during soccer team tryouts, he loses control of his own power and almost kills another player.

Jack soon finds out the shocking truth about himself: he is Weirlind, a member of a secret society of magical beings that coexist with humanity. The Red Rose and White Rose houses are at the head of this rivalry; their dominance is based on winning The Game, a magical competition in which a warrior from each house is sponsored to battle to the death. The Weir is ruled by the winning house.

And if his strange lineage wasn't enough, at a time when both houses are searching for a player, Jack discovers he's not just another Weirlind member, but one of the last of the warriors.
