In this clever, amusing friends-to-lovers debut, a young woman attempts to mend her heartache by using a spell to banish her ex from her history, but she wakes up in an other universe where she's lost more than she bargained for.

What if all of it was altered by a single wish?

After her long-term boyfriend breaks up with her, Gemma responds as any sensible twenty-eight-year-old would: she goes out drinking with her sister, eccentric aunt, and closest friend, Dax. They decide to do a love-cleansing spell, which guarantees to remove Gemma's ex from her memory, after having one too many margaritas. They comply with every directive, which includes Dax sealing the contract with a platonic kiss.

Gemma discovers this foolish magic has worked as she wakes up. She seems to have never dated her ex, and everything about the rest of her life has changed beyond recognition. The worst aspect is that Dax doesn't know who she is.

Gemma needs to persuade her former best friend—now a distant stranger—to kiss her in order to break the spell and return to her former life. But while she goes through with her intentions, she can't help but fall deeply in love with him. Gemma soon starts to question if she really wants to return to the previous state of affairs.
