A hot Hollywood filmmaker in Los Angeles transforms a city street into a fiery end of the world while high on PCP. Five perish. Valiant LAPD officer Jac McGarvey suffers severe injuries, spending months in the hospital and not knowing whether he would ever walk again. His wife and little boy must protect themselves from the deceased director's cult of devoted admirers as well as the crooks in charge of a city that is becoming more and more dangerous while he is out of commission.

The father of McGarvey's slain companion, Eduardo Fernandez, sees an odd nighttime scene in a desolate area of Montana. Fernandez feels someone is watching him in the winter woods when all of a sudden the stand of pines outside his home is illuminated by a strange amber light. The forest's very animals seem to be working with an enigmatic force as the seasons shift. A sequence of terrifying events engulf Fernandez and lead to a confrontation that may cost him his life, his sanity, or both.

The McGarvey family is enticed to Fernandez's Montana ranch as things spiral out of hand. They learn their fate in that remote location via a scary and intensely suspenseful meeting with an adversary who is hostile, completely cruel, and mysterious, and from whom neither the live nor the dead can escape.
