Gunslingers are much needed by the trackers, who come from the town of Calla Bryn Sturgis. Every generation, a group of horsemen wearing masks, called the Wolves, gallops out of Thunderclap's shadowy realm in an attempt to take one half of all twins born there. The youngsters are roont, or physically and psychologically destroyed, when they are brought back. The Wolves will raid once again in less than a month. Father Callahan, a priest who was originally from our world, offers to give Roland a terrible globe known as Black Thirteen that he has hidden under the floorboards of his church. This globe is powerful but wicked. Roland accepts his gift in return for his help. In addition to finding a means to overcome the unstoppable Wolves, Roland and his tet also need to make their journey back to New York in order to prevent the nefarious Sombra Corporation from demolishing our world's version of the Dark Tower.
